Learning Analytics Plan
The plan will need to go through a review process at the end of each cycle. This will involve all stakeholders to ensure that every aspect has been considered and any changes implemented.
Information can be gathered via a feedback form such as Google Forms or MS Forms that can be completed by educators, administrators, and students.
Learning Analytics tools
There are a number of options that could be considered when implementing Learning Analytics on our Institute Moodle.
Moodle Learning Analytics
Version 3.8 of Moodle provides some extra controls for Learning Analytics. It includes the ability to predict learner success based on information from within the LMS. This is relatively new and Moodle is running a series of webinars to help with implementation. The Webinar will demonstrate the following implementation steps
- Establishing community goals for learning analytics
- Setting up a small test server and training a simple model
- Training and testing a model on a replication of a production site
- Implementing a limited pilot on a production site
- Evaluating the results of a pilot, including a community review
- Rolling out Moodle Learning Analytics across a production site
- Maintaining a Learning Analytics program
Implementing LA within our Moodle will depend on eWorks and our e-learning team.
Plug-ins
There are a number of Moodle Plug-ins that provide varying levels of data visualisations and predictions and range in price from zero to $3000+
The Edwiser article, 7 Best Reporting Plugins for Moodle, outlines the pros and cons of some of the Learning Analytics tools that can be added into Moodle.
The Edwiser article can be found here
Training
All educators that will be utilising the Learner Analytics must attend in-house training sessions in how LA will be implemented within the Institute. This should include as a minimum:
- Policies and procedures relating to Learning Analytics and interventions
- Ethical considerations
- How to read the data and data visualisations
